Promotion of Indonesia through the Polish Breakfast Market (Targ Śniadaniowy) 2021

This interesting article is retrieved from our beloved Embassy of Indonesia in Warszawa, Poland.

Utilizing the 2021 Breakfast Market event, the Indonesian Embassy in Warsaw held Indonesian promotional activities for 2 days,  on 7 and 8 August 2021. This promotion was carried out with various activities and received a lot of attention from the Polish public, especially in the city of Warsaw.
The first day took place at the Targ Sniadaniowy park, Zoliborg-Warsaw on August 7, 2021. The Indonesian Pavilion was filled with several businessmen from Indonesia, the Indonesian diaspora and representatives of the PPI and Darma Wanita of the Indonesian Embassy in Warsaw. Various Indonesian foods are sold in the Indonesian pavilion, ranging from spices, main dishes, snacks and also Indonesian coffee. Besides diaspora and Indonesian citizens who specifically treat their homesickness with Indonesian specialties, the Indonesian pavilion is also filled with Polish people, visitors to the Breakfast Market event. The Warsaw Gamelan team entertained visitors with gamelan games and gamelan workshops. This group also accompanies several Indonesian dances live. Some of strains the Gending are Manyar Sewu Banyumas, Talu, Ladrang Wilujeng, Eling-Eling Banyumas and Dolanan Gundul Pacul. Meanwhile, the Indonesian dances that spoil the eyes of visitors are Gambyong Pareanom, Eko Prawiro, Yapong, Nawung Sekar and Klono Topeng.
In particular, Indonesian coffee was also presented by the Podkawa company team on the first day. Podkawa has been regularly importing coffee from Indonesia, specifically from Flores and its surroundings.
The second day (08/08), promotional activities continued at Targ Sniadanowy, Mokotow with various Indonesian promotional activities (culinary, music, dance and tourism). Different from the first day, on the second day the promotional activities were also marked with several related activities, including: the presentation of the Titan Arum flower by the University of Warsaw, the screening of Indonesian promotional videos and demonstrations of painting Indonesian animals and plants as well as the introduction of Indonesian coffee through the cupping method by the Podkawa enterprise team.
The Breakfast Market activity was officially opened by the CDA of the Indonesian Embassy, Mr. Taufiq Lamsuhur who in his opening remarks said, among other things, that Indonesia and Poland are countries that share different cultures and have been open nations for a long time. In the midst of a pandemic situation, the interaction of bilateral relations is affected by the respective national restriction policies, but on the contrary, people-to-people relations have intensified due to technological factors. At a glance, the Indonesian CDA also describes the increasingly real existence of the Indonesian community in Poland, both from the presence of Indonesian Migran Workers (PMI) and Overseas Indonesian Student Associaton (PPI) members as well as diaspora and the result of the intermarriage process. Besides that, he also specifically conveyed the existence of several Indonesian flora and fauna that were present in various zoos and botanical gardens in Poland.
Pandemic situation in Poland has been handled well and various health restrictions and protocols have begun to be adjusted. During the breakfast market activities, the Indonesian pavilion will continue to apply health protocol rules, a.l. gloves for vendor guards, plastic barriers between vendor guards and buyers, separation between money recipients and food guards and the provision of disinfectants.
Relations between Indonesia and Poland in the trade sector have always grown and developed positively from year to year. Even in the 2019/2020 pandemic situation, bilateral trade between the two countries remains positive. Trading volume in 2020 reached USD 726.45 million or a slight increase compared to 2019 which was only USD 708.59 million. In the January-June 2021 period, this trading volume touched USD 374.38 million, an increase of 10.41% compared to the figure in the same period the previous year. According to the CDA of Indonesian Embassy in Warsaw, the cooperation that has emerged in the last 3 years is cooperation in education and cooperation in the field of employment. These two sectors greatly contribute to the improvement of bilateral relations because these sectors indirectly promote bilateral cooperation in other sectors considering that these two sectors are directly in the Polish public and have room to promote Indonesia in various dimensions of activities and communications.
